I almost completely forgot about xanga, but I need to write something. I have very tired right now. I have not slept for over 24 hours for more than 40 minutes. I usually write stories on xanga, because I feel that they are light and entertaining. Tonight I just have food for thought. For 11 years I have wanted to see the broadway show called Les Miserables. Seeing this show was so important to me for so long, that once put it on a list of things to do before I die. I had a chance to see in it Columbus around my 21st Birthday, but those plans fell through and I was devasted. However, I was still hopeful that my chance would come again. later that school year, the broadway show closed (ironically I only knew this fact because I was enrolled in Theatre 100). Deep inside, I have been childlike in the sense that I really believed people have to follow their heart to be happy. When Les Miserables closed 4 years ago, I thought that my dream may have to die. I am happy to inform you that the dream did not die. In fact, the dream became a reality, not because of anything I have done, but because I am blessed with amazing friends. :) I have just returned from NYC, and I am pleased to inform you that I have seen it. :) Les Miserables is my favorite novel, one of my favorite movies, and is my favorite broadway show. I also owned the broadway soundtrack until an unfortunate recent accident, but I hope that whoever has it now is inspired by it as well. This book is so deep, that I could write about it all night and not do it justice. When I went to this play, I honestly did not think that the story would grip me like it did when I read it the first time. I was even a little afraid that afterall the hype, the play would not meet my expectations. Not only did the play exceed my expectations, but it taught me something about life that I didn't see before. It was so obvious in a sense, but I was so blind. I analyzed the main characters in the play, and now I know why so many people flock to see this show. It's the reason why this is the longest running broadshow in the whole world. If you know the story, write down your top 3 heroes and/or heroines. Then think about what makes these three out shine the others (in your opinion). My top three are the following: 1.Jean Val Jean 2.Fantine 3.Eponine Here is the rest of my official ranking: 4. The Bishop 5. Gavroche 6. Marius 7. Cosette 8. Javert 9. Madame Thenardier 10. Thenardier I will not write out my character analysis in this post. However, I will leave you with this. The secret to the success of the play is summed up best by Victor Hugo himself. It's what every single living and breathing human being wants deep within his or her soul. I used to ask people what they believed was most important in their life, and every single one that I asked said the exact same thing. Victor Hugo sums it up in the following passage: Is there not in every human soul, and was there not in the soul of Jean Valjean, an essential spark, an element of the divine; indestructible in this world and immortal in the next, which goodness can preserve, nourish and fan into glorious flame, and which evil can never quite extinguish? --Victor Hugo |
